"He'd taken the powder out of a frag grenade and fired the primer cap separately. Then he'd reassembled the thing and now as I interviewed potential Raiders, Chris would sit there playing with this dummy grenade.
Near the end of the session, if I still wasn't sure about a man, I'd give Chris a wink and he'd "accidentally" drop the grenade.
The safety pin would fall out and we'd jump back-horror and shock on our faces-- meanwhile studying the guy's response to this "live" grenade spinning around on the floor.
if the volunteer froze, we knew we didn't want him. if he threw himself on the grenade, we thought he was nuts (or at least suicidal) and we didn't want him either.
But if he grabbed the thing and threw it out of the tent, or if he cut a trail out of the place himself, we know he had good sense--he was a cool hombre, and real raider material."

I flunked 3 of the 6 tests on my emt practical, medical and trauma assessment, bag valve mask. Everyone else passed, so I must be the dummy. I couldn't figure out what to do, I'd apply a treatment, with no effect, I think they're supposed to get better, but no, so I apply something else that's wrong, probably made it harder than it really was. They don't tell you what you did wrong, so I'll never know. I didn't like doing all 6 on 1 day, or 3 days even. I heard in a nursing program, you do 1 every 6 weeks, less stress.
Clear blank lines
Clears blank lines from text files.
I was trying to save paper by laboriously deleting the blank lines on my EMT exams, finally found this, it works great.

How to convert .flv to .avi. Why? Because you can't make DVD movies out of flv's,which are the default type on youtube, while you can load .avi's into windows movie maker, which comes with Windows XP, Vista and windows 7. Also works with Adobe premiere.
The conversion makes a somewhat blurrier but useful .avi
Then you can give DVD's, they can be watched on TV, not just a computer
Note: not all youtube videos will show up in the Firefox cache, you'll have to point your video camera at the screen for those.

Download the right one, most new computers (since 2008 or so) are 64-bit, 32 bits will run on them also.
I asked for lightmapping, but it's not working right. The dungeon was made in Urban Pad.
You'll need 7zip, a file extractor, it's free google it, then install it, then right click on the ffmpeg.7z and 'extract files' I made a directory called c:/temp/utilties_temp/video/ffmpeg
Once you have unzipped it, go to the /bin subdirectory and copy ffmpeg.exe (17MB) into your C:\windows directory, (or the directory where windows is installed, in windows 2000 it's called /winnt.) why? because this will save you some typing in the next step.

right click on the ffmpeg.exe and select 'copy' and in the c:/windows directory r-click and hit 'paste', or CTRL-C and CTRL-V on the keyboard.
Next right click on the round windows logo at far bottom left of your desktop, it might say 'start' but on windows 7 a text box shows up. Right above it, type the word 'cmd' in it and hit enter, a black window with white text will appear. Now you need navigate to where your .flv is by typing 'cd c:\my_flv_location' where my_flv_location is the directory the flv's are in, copy them to somewhere like c:\movies for simplicity. 'cd' means 'change directory'. 'cmd' means command, the black window is DOS, which is what Windows actually is, hasn't changed since the 80's.

Once it says c:\movies> then type this: ffmpeg -i "my_movie.flv" "my_movie.avi" Yes you need the quotes! my_movie.flv is the name of your .flv. The window will fill with numbers and at the end you'll see a my_movie.avi in your c:\movies directory

Or you can pay $60 for the Adobe Premiere Moyea plugin, or 18 euros for the Firefox download helper converter plugin, the DL helper didn't work though.

“This country does in fact have a serious deficit problem. But the reality is that the deficit was caused by two wars — unpaid for.
It was caused by huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in this country. It was caused by a recession as result of the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street.
And if those are the causes of the deficit, I will be damned if we’re going to balance the budget on backs of the elderly, the sick, the children, and the poor. That’s wrong.”
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)Only the elderly have any money anyway

I'd use bolts and angle iron, actually square tubing from a gazebo frame, on the next holder
"I only drink to make YOU more interesting" -sign in a hot rod accessories catalog
There's an interesting book called something like 'You are not so smart-48 delusions, heard about it on the radio, one of them is the "Apple Effect".
It's much better to sell the mojo of a product, like 'You are the kind of person who deserves this product, why don't you have it?" than "You need a computer to pay your bills". Then a person develops brand loyalty when the reality is that all computers, phones, etc. are commodity items, exactly alike for the most part, performing the exact same functions. Noteworthy it's young people who buy into this stuff, Starbuck's is another one that comes to mind.
Misconception: when your beliefs ar challenged with facts, you alter your opinions and incorporate the new information into your thinking.
The truth: when your deepest convistions are challenged by contradictory evidence, your beliefs get stronger.
Update: I put this link on Facebook, all of a sudden he friended me w/o permission

What's with these 55-45 college football scores? I think the players are afraid to block and tackle, don't want to end up like Dave Duerson of the '85 Chicago Bears, who killed himself at age 50 by shooting himself in the chest because he wanted to leave his brain intact for examination.
It's really bad to play tackle football, they should switch to flags, wonder if anyone would watch.

libby had a mammary tumor removed, wearing long johns over a diaper, she's spotting blood out the tube, big long stitched scar.

Specializing in the only 3 kinds of roofs made around here?
November 6, snow, earliest yet, just an inch
November 2, low 28, coldest day yet, no rain for a month or so.
I spent 10 hours at the emergency room for EMT training, taking 10 case histories, pulses, blood pressures, etc. Amazing, people want to tell you their troubles. The workers have a unique way of walking.
On linkedin, Nick Wold lists himself as a 'visionary'. Haven't 'seen' heard anything about Walker wi-fi lately, should I close my eyes?
October 1-5, lots of rain, especially on Oct. 5, very windy.
I'm getting a dual core 64-bit Lenovo (3.2 ghz) from Fry's for $282, first new computer in 5 years or so, mostly because the Kinect is so slow.
Update, the computer came, it's insanely fast, the Kinect went from 5 fps to 30 frames per second. I had to uninstall the Macafee AV (costs money) and put on PC tools firewall and AVG antivirus (both free), before I surfed the internet. It has an 'hdmi' video along with the normal analog, so I either have to get an adapter to go to my other (DVI) monitor or buy an HDMI, about $100 difference. Also, the supplied USB mouse is unusable, don't know why they make them.
It also boots in 90 seconds, (with 2 programs I installed) as opposed to the 6 minute boot on my old machine.
Worst part of new computers is loading all the software and finding alternatives to the software that doesn't work on the new machine. It would be nice to network the old and new ones to play games/copy stuff over.
I tried to view an image on the new machine and 'join windows live' screen came up, don't know what it is except I don't want it. I've already got 2 spams from people who hacked it, just by clicking on a picture.
For pictures, I look at them with Xnview (free) and movies I use Vlan media player, for sound I use Audacity, both also free. General rule is to avoid all Microsoft, all preinstalled software, except the DVD burner. It might be O.K. but people know how to hack it, so it's a computer health hazard. Audacity crashes sometimes. I can't find my Camtasia video capture, might try out the free camstudio or jing.
For uploading to my web site, I use WSFTP, free for students/personal use. For reading PDFs I use Foxit pdf reader, for defragging I use my defrag. Kudos to the people who contributed all this stuff, because the commercial stuff is too expensive/bug and virus ridden.
I take that back, the worst part is telling the new computer your passwords again and again and again...
I just noticed 2 programs, lenovo eye distance and lenovo brightness, each using 22MB, in task manager, I 'end process', but they'll load at startup, have to see if I can disable them next time, what a waste.

This deer munches our plants in the early a.m. He/she ate some 4 o' clocks which they're supposed to hate, maybe he/she does now..
We got put on a bandwidth diet by Wild blue for exceeding 80 percent of the 7.5 GB -WE PAY FOR- 5 times in a calendar year. This is fraud in my opinion, are we paying for 6 GB or 7.5?
Speaking of fraud, Autodesk is supposed to give students a student license, I've DL'd 3 of their apps, no licenses, help desks are dead.

I stitched together 4 aerial pictures of humphrey's peak north of Flagstaff in photoshop and loaded them onto the DEM (digital elevation model) in the free 3dem software, they fit perfectly. Be cool to make a larger one and be able to fly over it.
Large areas of Arizona (like my neighborhood) aren't there though.

Great (troubled?) minds think alike, I've got a stack of rocks also, but mine are flat and angular, what's that mean?

What kind of energy fields does this make?

These classes are offered by the county, isn't there supposed to be a separation between church and state? Or don't they consider this a 'religion'? It's loony enough to be a religion. I wonder if they would allow Christians, etc. to teach classes.

I'm older than dirt!

Slitting a garden hose and putting over this wire rope kept it from scraping my roof paint, but it needed to be duct-taped, because it came off, some disappeared. The cable holds a rope on so I don't go sliding down the slick metal. I think I used a body grinder to slit the hose.

Bunny at Yavapai Prescott Valley, the ones in Walker run like, uh, rabbits because of the dogs.

I bought this '$700' program, urban pad, for $29 in a shareit thing like messiah, haven't tried it out yet, afraid I'll be stuck to the computer until I get a city like this.
Update, it kind of works, I made a cube, seems to crash though.

Update Nov 12, made a dungeon thingy
(403K)Get the unity3d web player (3mb)from unity3d.com if it doesn't work
Stupid statement of the week "Wall Street creates jobs"- heard on the radio from a commentator criticizing the Occupy Wall Street protesters
Wall Street creates gambling opportunities, and lousy they've been lately!

I found some arrows in the dumpster, missing points and nocks, nocks were 70 cents apiece at Wal-Mart (WAL-MART!), so I made some out of Marc Delany's water tank plastic, also some rock rakes, these will rake the small rocks.
I used a grinding wheel to form the points and nock shapes, a Dremel moto-tool to cut the nocks, it makes the most annoying whiningd noise imaginable. For the rake I used a circular saw with a tile/metal blade, a drill for the bottom of the 'U' shape, and a jigsaw to connect the 2 cuts.

Roadrunner at Yavapai PV, been there for months.

Garden Oct 20, a few days of freeze around the 6th killed it.

Trying to flatten these corrugated roof pieces to use in a parabolic solar dish, put a piece of sheet steel on them and drove the Toyota over it, mixed results..
Those 'occupy wall street' college students without jobs should be demonstrating at the colleges who sold them worthless degrees which left them with huge debts.
Stupid statement of the week- 'If you aren't rich and don't have a job, blame yourself' -Herman Cain, actually running for President. I'm waiting for Wall Street to create me one.
The Lenovo (see above) was really thrashing the hard drive, so I bought 4 gb of memory from newegg.com for $22 or so, a hdmi to dvi adapter for $6 and a wireless usb adapter to replace my dead one for $15, came to $45 with the $2 shipping. Amazingly I just had to type in 1 word to get the wireless usb thing going, the password.
Now I have my usual 2 monitors. There's a 30 day warranty on all 3 items, wait, shouldn't it be a year? 90 days?
